FAN FAVORITES RETURN TO SAM HOUSTON RACE PARK- SATURDAY, FEB. 17TH
HOUSTON, TX (February 15th, 2018)— Sam Houston Race Park (www.shrp.com) is pleased to welcome back a couple of fan favorites this weekend with the return of this year’s Wiener Dog Races and Houston’s new favorite race-horse Altuveatbat.
Altuveatbat garnered a name for himself when he finished 2nd in his debut race at SHRP on opening weekend- January 19th. Owner Danny Pish named the three year old colt after Houston Astros superstar Jose Altuve, who most recently won the 2017 AL MVP as well as leading the Astros to a dramatic World Series Championship Victory. Altuveatbat is set to take the field at Sam Houston again on Saturday night as a participant in Race 7.
Sam Houston Race Park is also excited for the return of the annual Wiener Dog Races, set to take place this Saturday night. The field is set with 64 wiener dogs competing in 8 heats, with a 9th and final race as the championship between each heat victor. In addition to the wiener dogs participating, all of our patrons will be permitted to bring their dogs out to SHRP on Saturday to enjoy the races as long as they are kept on a leash and outside. $1 hot dogs will be served in concurrence with this event from all food and beverage stations. The 2018 Wiener Dog Races are co-sponsored by Oakmont and Texas Chili.
Lots of fun is in store for our fans this weekend. We encourage all Houstonians to come out for live horse racing and 50¢ beer this Friday, and then bring the whole family to enjoy the festivities taking place Saturday Night! The first post times are 7pm Friday and 6pm Saturday.
