Executive Chef James Gilmer

Sam Houston Race Park is pleased to announce the addition of Mr. James Gilmer to join its Food and Beverage Department as the new Executive Chef. Gilmer will be an outstanding addition to the team and looks to add his personal touch to the menus in both the off-season as well as the live racing season that will kick off on Friday, January 20, 2017.

“I am very excited to breathe new life into Sam Houston’s menus by adding a modern sizzle,” Gilmer stated. “I plan to keep the menus familiar, but add some new and exciting elements for all of our customers to enjoy.”

Executive Chef Gilmer most recently comes to Sam Houston from Blackhawk, Colorado where he refined his skills at the prestigious Denver Art Institute of Colorado, and served as the Executive Chef for Affinity Gaming which owns Casinos in Nevada, Missouri and Iowa.  Gilmer’s resume also boasts a stint with the well-known Isle of Capri Casino. Gilmer’s vast experience in fine dining steakhouses, buffets, quick service and in the gaming industry will allow him to quickly take the reins of Sam Houston’s diverse concession, catering and restaurant lines.

“I look forward to the new life Chef Gilmer will bring to an already great menu and staff,” said Sam Houston Race Park President Andrea B. Young. “His passion for the culinary arts is a refreshing mix of perfecting the art of his craft and being able to adjust to meet consumer demands. We are very pleased to have him onboard.”
