Trainer Alonso Neri Saddles the Winner of Two of the Three Trials

HOUSTON, TX -Sam Houston Race Park hosted three 400-yard trials on a soggy Thursday night for the $207,950  Retama Park Derby. The 20-day Retama Park Quarter Horse meet is currently underway at Sam Houston Race Park while the Selma, Texas racetrack makes repairs due to structural damages caused by sub-freezing temperatures in February.

HOUSTON, TX –The Sam Houston Race Park Quarter Horse season continues this week with live racing set for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at 6:45 pm (Central). On Friday, July 2, the northwest Houston racetrack will host four stakes, ranging from 330 yards to 870 yards. Several previous stakes winners are in the fields as well as some notable veterans making their first start in Houston.

HOUSTON, TX –Three times was the charm for Beduino La Jolla who became a stakes winner this evening winning the $50,000 Friendship Stakes for 3-year-old accredited Texas-breds. Owned by Carlos Ponce, the son of Separtist out of the Streakin La Jolla mare Southern La Jolla won his last two starts at Sam Houston Race Park and advanced confidently to the stakes level under jockey Victor Urieta, Jr.

Opening Day Features the $50,000 Friendship Stakes and La Villita Stakes

HOUSTON, TX –  As previously reported, the Retama Park Quarter Horse live racing season, originally scheduled to begin June 24, will take place at Sam Houston Race Park. The transfer of dates was deemed necessary due to damage incurred by Retama Park as a result of the winter storm that affected Texas in February. Sub-freezing temperatures for a period of five days, along with subsequent damage from broken water pipes and sprinklers, caused significant  damage to the grandstand, barn area and racing office. Repairs are underway but cannot be completed prior to the upcoming live Quarter Horse racing season.

ROBERT BORK, RACING INDUSTRY EXECUTIVE AND PAST PRESIDENT OF SAM HOUSTON RACE PARK, PASSES AWAY AT THE AGE OF 83

HOUSTON, TX - Robert Bork, who made a tremendous impact on the racing industry for over four decades, passed away peacefully at his home in Houston on June 11, at the age of 83.
