HOUSTON, TX- The fields are set for the premier day of Thoroughbred racing at Sam Houston Race Park.   The Houston Racing Festival will take place on Sunday, January 30with a special afternoon post time of 1:45 pm (CT). The 11-race card includes six stakes, highlighted by the Grade 3, $400,000 Houston Ladies Classic and Grade 3, $200,000 John B. Connally Turf Cup.

HOUSTON, TX-  The first two stakes of the 2022 Sam Houston Race Park Thoroughbred season were contested on Thursday afternoon with Pinky Ring Bling living up to his post-time favoritism in the $75,000 My Dandy and Texas Thunder breaking her maiden in the $75,000 Darby’s Daughter. The Texas Thoroughbred Association sponsors the Clarence Scharbauer Jr. Texas Stallion Stakes Series (TSSS), a set of races for progeny of nominated Texas-based stallions. The series features three sets of races, each split into two divisions (colts/geldings and fillies) for a purse of $75,000 per division. The races honor notable Texas horses of the past.

HOUSTON, TX—Nominations have closed for the Houston Racing Festival at Sam Houston Race Park. The annual event, featuring six stakes and purses in excess of $1 million will be contested on Sunday, January 30 with a special afternoon post time of 1:45 pm (CT).  

THE $75,000 DARBY’S DAUGHTER AND $75,000 MY DANDY WILL BE CONTESTED THURSDAY, JANUARY 20 AT SAM HOUSTON RACE PARK

Exciting Promotions Set for Houston Racing Festival on January 30

HOUSTON, TX-  The first two stakes of the 2022  Sam Houston Race Park Thoroughbred season will take place Thursday, January 20. The $75,000 My Dandy and $75,000 Darby’s Daughter will be run at the distance of five and one-half furlongs on the main track. Post time for Thursday’s card is 4:00 pm (Central) with the My Dandy running as the opener and the Darby’s Daughter to follow.

HOUSTON, TX - Quarter Horse trainer Leon Bard died on January 5 in Wheelock, Texas, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was 75 years-old.

HOUSTON, TX – The day-to-day responsibilities of training racehorses is more than most people outside of the industry can fathom. In short, it’s a 24-hour commitment beginning with acquiring quality owners, conditioning horses through morning works, making equipment adjustments when necessary and finding the right level come entry time. Coupled with attending sales, supervising staff, selecting a jockey, shipping to the next destination and dealing with weather extremes, it is far from an easy way to make a living.
