Bryan Pettigrew named Vice President and General Manager of Texas Racing Operations for PENN Entertainment

(Houston, TX – May 23, 2023) – Horse racing industry veteran Bryan Pettigrew will be returning to Texas to lead PENN Entertainment’s horse racing operations at Sam Houston Race Park in Houston and at Retama Park in Selma.   Pettigrew was previously head of marketing at Sam Houston Race Park in the mid-1990s before joining the National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA) and later the Breeders’ Cup in Lexington, KY where he was the Chief Marketing Officer before departing in 2019.

Boost Goes Into Effect on Thursday, May 18

HOUSTON, TX - Sam Houston Race Park is pleased to announce that a purse increase of 10% will go into effect with the Thursday, May 18 race card. The boost will cover each of the overnight races for the 2023 Quarter Horse meet which concludes on Saturday, June 17.

Five qualifiers from each night will return on Saturday, June 3.

The Top Five Qualifiers From Each Night Will Advance to the Final on Saturday, June 3

HOUSTON, TX – It will be a very busy weekend for the connections of juvenile Quarter Horses at Sam Houston Race Park. The northwest Houston racetrack will run nine trials on Friday, May 12 as well as Saturday, May 13 for the $461,835 Sam Houston Futurity (G2). Post time is  6:15 pm (CT) with the fastest ten qualifiers in the 330-yard trials earning a berth to the final on Saturday, June 3.
