We will be taking on-site, walk-up registration for the SHRP Idol contest Friday, January 22nd beginning at 5:30 pm when the live racing gates open. Registration will be set up next to the Guest Services desk on the South end of the Club Level. The contest will begin at 7pm so all participants will have to be signed up, paid in full and have their music turned in by 6:45 pm.

The restaurant will feature an a la carte menu tonight.

You Think You Have What It Takes To be Houston’s Best Singer? Sam Houston Race Park will host the Inaugural Sam Houston Race Park Idol singing contest, open to singers ages 6 to 18 years of age, beginning Friday, January 15, 2010.  The contest will feature two divisions, Juniors (ages 6 to 11) and a Seniors (ages 12 to 18), performing before a panel of industry judges and a live audience in between racing events.  Contestants will perform a two-minute song of their choice and be scored based on vocal performance, audience response and stage presence.  One Junior and one Senior division winner will be selected.  Qualifying rounds will take place January 15 & 22; Finals will take place January 29.
