Looking for a winner at the track tonight?  Then you have come to the right place.  In this handicapping section, Sam Houston Race Park expert handicappers Martha Claussen and Michael Chamberlain offer their nightly picks for each race.  In addition, Michael Chamberlain lists some important tips to keep in mind when you are going through the program, possibly in search of your own winner.  Welcome to Sam Houston Race Park and we wish the best of luck to you all.

2007 Sam Houston Race Park Quarter Horse Meet

Both Martha Claussen and Michael Chamberlain had their redhot moments during the recently concluded American Quarter Horse Meeting at Sam Houston Race Park. Claussen picked 118 winners (33%) on top with Chamberlain selecting 113 (32%). Chamberlain looked like Chorwon in the 1999 Connally Breeders' Cup Turf with a terrific closing kick to complete the $24 nightly bankroll plays with a total of $723 versus $631 for Claussen. She did submit her name to the Guiness Book of World Records for selecting 2 out of 3 on her Pick 3 plays a record 90% throughout the meet.  Both handicappers will return with their selections and bankroll plays for the 2007/2008 Thoroughbred meeting, which gets underway on Friday, November 23.

Track Announcer
Michael Chamberlain is the track announcer at Sam Houston Race Park and performs live race calls on all Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse races.  In addition, Chamberlain sets the morning line and writes a daily tip sheet entitled "From the Mike".

2006-2007 Thoroughbred Meet Handicapping Recap

The leading honors were split 50-50 as Martha Claussen, had the most winners and Michael Chamberlain, had the edge in bankroll plays. Chamberlain led Claussen by 12 winners through January, but Claussen, fueled by a relaxing Bahamas vacation in February, rallied in the stretch to finish the meet with 227 winning selections (34%) to Chamberlain's 213 (32%). Chamberlain's nightly $24 plays netted a total of $1,168 to Claussen's $1,080.

First Time-Starter Trifecta of Tips

The races which usually provide the biggest payouts at Sam Houston Race Park are maiden races.  Maiden races are for horses which have never won a race at any time in their careers.  The most difficult horses to handicap in maiden races are first-time starters.  The reason they can be hard to figure is that they have no history on the racetrack at all.  However, there are some things to look for in first-time starters that might lead you to find the proverbial needle in the haystack.
