TEXAS TWISTER STAKES RACES TOP THE WEEKEND'S LIVE RACING CARD AT SAM HOUSTON RACE PARK
Three Quarter Horse Stakes Races Along With, Wiener Dog Races and More on Saturday, July 17, 2010
HOUSTON (July 16, 2010)—Sam Houston Race Park (www.shrp.com) will host three exciting stakes races, the $15,000 + Texas Twister Stakes, as part of the live Quarter Horse race card on Saturday, July 17, 2010.
The first stakes race, Race 6, will feature eight horses set to go off at approximately 7:22 p.m. All three Texas Twister stakes races will feature 3-year-olds and up racing a distance of 110 yards on the dirt track.
The favored horse for the first of the Texas Twister stakes, Calientes Wrangler (5-2), looks to garner his first stakes race and second overall win at Sam Houston Race Park. The 4-year-old is trained by the 2009 Trainer of the Meet Bobby Touchet, owned by Efren Garcia Ramirez and will be ridden by jockey David Alvarez.
Race 6 will also feature Executive Looks, RD Sno Jo, Prime Fees, Royal Daydream, Royal Shake Em Fever, Ace Cinnan and Vodka With Ice.
Race 7, the second of the Texas Twister stakes races, is set to start at approximately 7:47 p.m. and will feature a field of seven horses. Morning line odds favorite is RC Grimm (8-5), a 4-year-old Sorrel gelding. RC Grimm has won three of his nine races at Sam Houston Race Park and a streak of four consecutive wins in April and May of this year. RC Grimm is trained Edelmiro Carrizales, owned by Thomas G. Bradfield and will be ridden by jockey Santos Carrizales.
The remainder of the field will feature A Quick Royal, Newarcos Bambina, Tooty O Toole, Speeding, Sol Warlock and Shezanascar.
The final Texas Twister stakes of the night will be Race 8 with a post time of approximately 8:12 p.m. The favorite in this race is RC Red Velvet (2-1). The 4-year-old gray mare holds a record of five wins in 12 starts at Sam Houston Race Park and is coming off two wins, which she claimed at The Park in June.
RC Red Velvet is owned by A.D. Maddox, trained by James Gerhards and will be ridden by jockey Luis Ramirez.
The remainder of the eight-horse field features Hot Charge, Ja Gols Temptation, Fleet Eileen, Shazoom Dashing, The Candy Express, Sought After and Pac N Zoom.
In addition to live racing events, The Park will hold the 3rd Semi-Annual Wiener Dog Races presented by PETCO and Bark’s 5th Avenue and Party on the Patiofeaturing outdoor patio seating on the Pavilion Apron area, hot food off the grill and $2 draft beer from 4 – 8 p.m.
The 2010 American Quarter Horse meet at The Park continues with live racing events Thursday, Friday and Saturday through August 14.
