Despite Rain, Fog & Muddy Conditions Favored Horses Rallied For Wins on Saturday, December 12, 2009


HOUSTON (December 13, 2009)—Sam Houston Race Park ( hosted the Texas Lone Star Arabian Futurity stakes races as part of the 10-race card on Saturday, December 12.  Despite the chilly rain, increasing fog and muddy track conditions, favored horses Lacy Crazy Vaz and Burning Fancy pulled off wins in the nights featured Arabian races.

The $20,700 Texas Lone Star Arabian Futurity, which featured a field of 11 Arabian colts and geldings going six furlongs on the dirt track, witnessed three year old Lacy Crazy Vaz ($3.00) stalking the early pace and rallying on the turn to take command quickly and was able to maintain a lead through the fog and cross the wire with a final time of 1:21.83.  The horse is owned by Sam A. Vasquez, is trained Juan Ascencio and was ridden by jockey Eduard Tejera.

The night’s seventh race was the $21,150 Texas Lone Star Arabian Futurity and showcased three year old fillies going six furlongs with Burning Fancy ($2.40) setting the early pace out of the gate and clearing the field quickly to cross the wire unopposed by 11 3/4 lengths with a final time of 1:19.96.  The ride proved to be the night’s largest lead and jockey Kelsi Purcell was thrilled with the win saying, “I couldn’t have asked for a better performance tonight from this horse; she just did everything right and we had a great win!”
Burning Fancy is owned by Marvin Powell and trained by Jerry Partin.
