Amid On-Going Discussions, The Park Opens American Quarter Horse Meet on Thursday, June 26, 2008


            HOUSTON (June 25, 2008)—The Texas Horsemen’s Partnership, LLP (, in conjunction with the recently formed Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Group (THG), has rescinded its approval for Sam Houston Race Park ( to send its American Quarter Horse signal to Account Deposit Wagering (ADWs) outlets such as TVG, Twinspires, Express Bet, You Bet and others.   The Park joins other race tracks, including Churchill Downs, Lonestar Park, Retama Park and Presque Isle Downs, which have had their simulcasting rights restricted by the THG in an on-going dispute regarding the percentage of simulcast wagering that goes to the horsemen.

            “At this time, we are working diligently with the Texas Horsemen’s Partnership to resolve these issues; however, that could change if the issue is not resolved in a timely manner,” stated Eric Johnston, Vice President of Racing, Sam Houston Race Park.  “We will continue to monitor the situation and are hopeful that we can come to a resolution.”

            Johnston went on to say that the decision will not have an immediate effect on purse money for the American Quarter Horse Meeting, which opens at The Park on Thursday, June 26, 2008.

            In addition to the return of live racing at The Park, live music at The Showgrounds ( will continue with opening weekend concerts from country stars Robert Earl Keen on Friday, June 27 and John Michael Montgomery with special guest Django Walker on Saturday, June 28.  Concert events will take place on the infield area on the track immediately following the final race.
