Holiday Weekend Has Affordable Family Fun Featuring Two Nights of Fireworks, Live Racing, Hot Air Balloon Rides, Vans Warped Tour & More July 2-4, 2010


HOUSTON (June 23, 2010)—Celebrate the holiday weekend with a variety of affordable family fun featuring TWO NIGHTS of live racing & festive fireworks, along with live music, hot air balloon rides and more as The Park celebrates the July 4th Weekend Extravaganza presented by Champion Energy Services, ABC Home & Commercial Services and Houston Press at Sam Houston Race Park ( Friday, July 2 through Sunday, July 4, 2010

Join us for TWO NIGHTS of live racing and fireworks on July 3rd & 4th featuring FREE general parking and Early Bird general admission for $6 Adults & $4 Senior Citizens until 6 p.m. 

At 6 p.m., parking will be $10 per car; general admission prices will be $10 for Adults & Senior Citizens; kids ages 12 and under are FREE to racing and fireworks.

In addition to the weekend’s racing & live music festivities, Anheuser-Busch will be on-hand Friday, July 2 through Sunday, July 4 with a 15-story hot air balloon with the shape and branding of a Select 55 bottle.  As fans 21 years of age and older indulge in some of the holiday weekend’s high-calorie food and beverage creations, Select 55 will be on hand as a low-calorie beer option.  The hot air balloon will be located in the parking lot located next to the Pavilion Centre for the duration of the weekend’s events and will be offering 15 minute rides to patrons. 


The celebration begins on Friday, July 2nd with Vans Warped Tour in the West Lot.  Gates open at 1 p.m. Vans Warped Tour is one of the most popular all-ages touring music and extreme sports festivals in America. The day-long festival will showcase multiple stages and music from more than 80 acts such as Andrew W.K., Motion City Soundtrack, Sum 41, Reel Big Fish, Alkaline Trio and more!  Tickets are available for $32.98 in advance; $40.00 day of show.  Stick around after the concert and enjoy live Quarter Horse racing and 50 Cent Beer Night presented by Houston Press featuring 50 cent draft beer specials from 5:30-10 p.m.

Racing highlights for Friday night, which offer almost $500,000 in purse money, include the Grade 1 $346,700 Sam Houston Futurity and Grade 2 $113,250 Sam Houston Derby.  General parking is FREE; General admission is just $6 Adults, $4 for Senior Citizens and kids ages 12 and under are FREE for live racing events.

The holiday weekend heats up with TWO NIGHTSof live racing, great dining and one of Houston’s biggest fireworks displays on Saturday, July 3rd and Sunday, July 4th.   The All-American celebration features live Quarter Horse racing, with an extended, 12-race card, beginning at 5 p.m. both days.  The Winner’s Circle Restaurant, Houston’s largest dining destination, will offer a holiday-themed buffet for just $39 per person which includes admission, reserved seating in the Winner’s Circle Restaurant, live racing program, Grande Buffet (including tax & gratuity), a $2 wagering coupon and one of the best views of the race track as well as the fireworks display.  Space is limited; call 281-807-8760 for reservations.

The Park welcomes the Jeff Boortz Band (, one of the top participants in the 2010 Battle of the Bands event, along with special guest Todd Cummings as part of the Verizon Wireless Summer Concert Series on the Bud Light side stage.  The bands will perform between races as part of the day’s celebration.  The Park will also offer activities for kids of all ages and guests will have access to giveaways and contests from 106.9 The Point’s promotions team. 

Racing highlights for Saturday include 12 live races and the $15,000 Silestone Stakes.


In addition to 12 live races and fireworks, the July 4th Extravaganza will feature a performance by Team Ghost Riders (, one of the most unique exhibitions touring the country today.  Tim “Wild Thang” Lepard and his animal friends Charger & Rock, Laramie & Ted, Mega & Dog, and Dakota & Spot make up Team Ghost Riders. This energetic group consists of four monkeys riding dogs and herding sheep in a hilariously entertaining performance. The Park will also offer activities for kids of all ages including train rides around The Park courtesy of Stan’s Trackless Train (

The weekend also includes face painters and balloon artists on-hand both Saturday & Sunday during live racing events.

Free parking is available on Saturday & Sunday until 6pm; $10 per car after 6pm. General Admission $6 adults; $4 Senior Citizens until 6 p.m.  After 6 p.m. Saturday & Sunday, ticket prices increase to $10 Adults & Senior Citizens; kids 12 and under FREE both days.

Gates open at 5 p.m. on Friday; first post 7 p.m.  Gates open at 2 p.m. on Saturday & Sunday; first post 5 p.m.; fireworks will take place at approximately 10:15 p.m.
