LIVE RACING CANCELED
AT SAM HOUSTON RACE PARK
DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER
The Saturday, April 27 live Quarter Horse race card was canceled at Sam Houston Race Park due to heavy rain and thunderstorms in the greater Houston area.
Officials made the decision at 7:00 p.m. (CT) when radar indicated that the storm which brought heavy rain, thunder and lightning was not lessening in its intensity.
“The safety of our jockeys, horses, fans and employees is of paramount importance,” said Eric Johnston, Sam Houston Race Park vice-president of racing. “After reviewing the radar, it was evident that live racing could not be conducted this evening.”
Johnston indicated that the two stakes carded for Saturday evening, the $27,540 Merial Distaff Texas Challenge and the $24,120 Zoetis Sam Houston Starter Allowance Challenge will be run on Friday, May 3. The post positions will be drawn on Tuesday, April 30.
