Sam Houston Race Park to Simulcast the Qatar

Prix De l' Arc De Triomphe on October 6, 2013

Top European Thoroughbred Event Added to Simulcast Menu

Sam Houston Race Park will simulcast the 2013 Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe on Sunday, October 6. The prestigious European stakes, known as “the Arc”, is a one and one-half mile race on turf for three-year-old horses and older with a purse of $5 million U.S. dollars.

One of the premier events on the European flat-racing calendar, the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe will celebrate its 93rd running.  Longchamp Racecourse is located on the beautiful Bois de Bologne in Paris. The turf course with its hill, continues to be one of the most challenging championship events in Thoroughbred history.

The field for this year's edition of "the Arc" is expected to be one of the most competitive in years.  The top nine horses have all won at least one Group One or Grade One event and have 21 victories at the highest level between them. The international field is expected to include Kizuna, this year's Japanese Derby winner, who beat his Epsom counterpart, Ruler Of The World, in their most recent meeting.

Trainer André Fabre has seven wins in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe and will saddle two entrants, Intello and Ocovango this year. Jockey Olivier Peslier has a strong legacy in the race with four titles including a victory in 2012 aboard Solemia.

"Our fans have really enjoyed the big international racing events," said Andréa Young, Sam Houston Race Park's president. "We had a nice crowd for the simulcast of Royal Ascot in June and hope that the "Arc" will be another exciting simulcast event at Sam Houston Race Park."

Sam Houston Race Park will offer a special "Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe " brunch in the Jockey Club on Sunday, October 6. The menu will include French delicacies including Coq Au Vin, Boeuf Bourguignon, salads, crudités, desserts and cooked to order stations featuring crepes and Granny Smith apple tarts. The price is $15.95.

Gates will open at 7:45 a.m. with the Qatar Prix del l’Arc de Triomphe post time at approximately 9:15 a.m. (CT).  Sam Houston Race Park will be simulcasting seven of the races on the card including three Breeder's Cup Challenge events.  Admission is FREE at Sam Houston Race Park during the non-live racing season.

In addition to the running of the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe on October 6, Sam Houston Race Park will simulcast racing from tracks across the country including Keeneland, Belmont Park, Woodbine, Gulfstream Park and Santa Anita.  A complete list of simulcast tracks and stakes across the country is available on

Live Thoroughbred racing will return on Friday, January 17, 2014.
