LIVE RACING EVENTS CANCELLED AT SAM HOUSTON RACE PARK DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER ON FRIDAY, JANUARY 8, 2010

HOUSTON (January 8, 2010)—Sam Houston Race Park (www.shrp.com) has cancelled live racing events for Friday, January 8, 2010, due to inclement weather, frozen track conditions and on-going freezing temperatures. 
           
Sam Houston Race Park Idol singing contest, which was scheduled to begin tonight at 7 p.m., will be rescheduled for Friday, January 15.  The contest dates will be January 15 & 22 for qualifying rounds and January 29 for the finals.  Simulcast operations will continue as scheduled on Friday evening.  
           
“The safety of our horses and jockeys, along with our staff and patrons are at the forefront of our decision to cancel live racing events for this evening,” said President and Chief Operating Officer Andrea Young.
           
The Park anticipates opening for live racing events on Saturday, January 9, however, training sessions for Saturday morning will be cancelled.  The Park will continue to evaluate weather and track conditions over the weekend.  Live racing gates open on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. with the first post scheduled for 7 p.m.
